![]() ![]() ![]() I have a collection of stuff that has been gathered up over the years and it just keeps growing. I have seen cheap units have unstable output ( output wandering when the device is hands off) because the electrical connectors on the pots were loose instead of soldered on.įor me, a good set of rudder pedals with differential braking is just as umportant as a stick or yoke.Īhhh.starting off again! I will be quite honest and ask you how much you have to spend on this endeavor. How much output noise and hystereses there is directly related to the cost of the components and the quality of the assembly used and how much friciton is in the moving mechanical components. It pays to buy a good one - dont get the cheepest. Obviously a stick cannot have that kind of throw for roll.Ĭheap devics for this are not a bargain. The best device for a yoke has full 90 degree throw for roll both left and right ( 180 total), rather than the 45 degree of most all low cost devices. Aslo it needs to have a good resulution for the same reason. You need a reasonable throw for the device or it will be sensitive. ![]() Here is the crucial issue with both of these type devices. For probably less than the price of a CH or Saitek yoke, you can probably even get a complete Thrustmaster set of pedals, throttle and stick which will be enough to fill all of your basic needs for simming.įinal point I would make is, since you are just getting started, a stick will give you the best versatility to explore and find where your interests really are, and if later you find you are a tubeliner enthusiast or something similar, well then you can make a confident upgrade to a Yoke (and still have that starter stick for those times you want a helo or a warbird type thrill). A $50 thrustmaster stick will do just fine to get started. You will have to spend at least $250 (honeycomb) to get one worth having. My personal experience is, the $150+/- ranged yokes are not great. You will likely get differing opinions on this, but here is mine, with my reasoning.Ī Yoke is specific to certain types of aircraft, and not great, even marginal to unusable for some types (ie good luck flying a helicopter with a yoke).Ī stick on the other hand can be used to fly any aircraft in X-Plane.Īnother point is, a decent stick can be had for a much more affordable price than a decent yoke. ![]()
